Poodle Sense – Breeding, Training & Placing Exceptional Standard Poodles

At Poodle Sense, we breed, train, and place AKC Standard Poodles for a variety of roles, including hunting, pets, agility, obedience, therapy, and service work.

Our goal is to raise Standard Poodles that are healthy, loving, and gentle. Each litter produces a range of personalities, from the laid-back couch companion to the energetic, high-drive working dog, ensuring the perfect match for every family or purpose.

One of the most rewarding parts of being a breeder is placing a puppy in a home where I know they will be truly loved, cared for, and welcomed as a cherished member of the family. Seeing that bond form is what makes all the work worthwhile.

My name is Sandy Vance, and I am an ethical preservation breeder and the owner of Poodle Sense. My journey with Standard Poodles began in 1993 with my first poodle, a beautiful blue girl named Mindy. As someone allergic to most dogs, I was immediately drawn to the Standard Poodle’s hypoallergenic qualities and Mindy proved to be the perfect fit.

She quickly became a cherished member of our family, filling our home with joy and giving us twelve unforgettable years of unconditional love. Mindy is the reason I fell in love with the breed and the inspiration behind my lifelong dedication to raising healthy, well-balanced Standard Poodles.

In 2002, we officially became a multi–Standard Poodle family when we brought home our second blue poodle, Maximus. By then, I had already self-trained our first poodle, Mindy, which sparked my passion for dog training. When Maximus joined us, we enrolled in our first formal obedience class, where I learned just how valuable proper training is especially when started early.

In 2007, I began volunteering with Can Do Canines, raising and training Standard Poodle puppies for service work. During my time there, I had the privilege of training Chili, Pepper, Nigel, and Heidi, each of whom went on to change lives through their service.

My first litter arrived in 2011—seven beautiful puppies. Two of them, Opal and Teddy, became diabetic-alert dogs. I personally trained Opal in public access, service tasks, and basic obedience. Another puppy from the litter became a dedicated hunting dog, and all of them grew into wonderful family companions. That experience confirmed my passion, and I’ve continued raising, training, and ethically breeding Standard Poodles ever since.

Poodle Sense is located in our home on ten acres of land in Harris, Minnesota, just one hour north of Minneapolis–St. Paul. Here, our dogs enjoy plenty of space to run, play, and develop into well-rounded companions.

All of our Standard Poodles are thoroughly health tested prior to breeding to ensure they produce healthy, high-quality puppies. Ethical, responsible breeding is at the core of everything we do at Poodle Sense.
